Every New Year, YouTube gets taken over by the art of making vision boards. This has become a tradition in itself–and one I fully take part in. In fact, it’s my favorite part of the new year (well, that and making my whole family get under the table with me to eat 12 grapes).

The idea of planning out your entire year can feel overwhelming. Many people set extreme goals, then head to Pinterest to create the cutest collage ever—only to never look at it again. Yet, year after year, the tradition continues.

But is there a guaranteed way to make a Vision Board that actually helps you achieve your goals? After navigating YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram I’ve gathered some of my favorite tips and tricks to help you do just that.

The key is to take things step by step. Envision your end goal, then work backward to figure out how you can become that "unrecognizable" version of yourself.

Step 1: Put the computer away!

Okay, I’m joking—but grab a piece of paper or a notepad and start jotting down bullet points of what your "best self" looks like. Make it as broad or as detailed as you want. Then, organize these points into categories like self-care, career, academics, travel, love life, etc.

Step 2: Break it down

Once you have your categories, take a good look at them and ask yourself: What can I do this year to take a step toward my dream? How can I adjust my routine to prioritize this aspect of my life? From here, create smaller, actionable steps (because we love substeps) to start any project or habit you’ve been wishing for.

Often, the hardest part of any new venture is simply figuring out how to begin. That fear of failure can be paralyzing—but all we can do is try. After all, we only have one life, and we get to choose who we become. That’s exactly why vision boards are so powerful.

Step 3: Get creative

Now, pull up Pinterest, Google, Canva—even magazines like the Buzz (wink wink)—and find images that truly resonate with you. Put on your favorite music or TV show and soak in the positive vibes this year will bring.

Most importantly, use your vision board as a tool, not just decor. Let it serve as a daily reminder of your goals and the beautiful life you’re creating. Every new year brings a surge of motivation, but our real aim should be turning that motivation into dedication—slowly but surely. May this year bring you love, ambition, and happiness!
