The Hunt for Soup During Flu Season
Hot and Fresh Soup Served at BU’s Dining Halls to Relieve Your Flu Symptoms
by Clara Kye
As the weather in Boston turns colder, windier, and rainier, it is almost inevitable that sickness will follow. The “frat flu” or “freshman flu” is bound to reach BU students towards the beginning of the year. Nothing is more comforting than a bowl of warm soup when you’re feeling under the weather. Fortunately, a fresh selection of soups is served daily at a BU dining hall closest to you. Here are a few of my personal favorites that have been especially comforting when I've been feeling sick.
The Marciano dining hall is known to be one of the best dining halls on campus, and their soups prove this statement to be true. Head up to the second floor, and you’ll be greeted by the vibrant orange pumpkin soup. This light and sweet dish, perfectly paired with complimentary oyster crackers, is a comforting choice for any meal.
Feeling a soup that’s more savory and filling? Head on over to the Warren dining hall, which also happens to have some delicious soup options. One of the most popular soups here would have to be the broccoli cheddar soup. It’s thick, creamy, and best of all, cheesy! You won’t be disappointed with this soup—there’s a perfect combination of broccoli bits and cheesiness that will have you going for seconds.
The final soup I recommend is often overlooked, but is definitely a must-try: the Greek chicken orzo soup. It is available, again, at the Warren dining hall. Its appearance may not immediately catch your eye, but just one whiff of its aroma will make you eager to try it. The soup itself has a clear, watery base, and it’s seasoned to perfection. Beside the soup pots are packets of saltine crackers that go perfectly with this chicken orzo soup.
As college students, getting sick isn’t the best feeling, especially when we don't have the comforting meals that we’re used to at home. On days when you're feeling gloomy or under the weather, don't hesitate to check out the soups available in the dining halls. They’re the perfect comfort meal to lift your spirits and help you feel better.
