Tatte: Is Boston's Favorite Cafe Overhyped?

Reviewing Boston's most hyped cafe

When you think of Tatte, what comes to mind? Good food, a Boston staple, and reliably satisfying.

Tatte is located in virtually every corner of Boston, making it impossible to avoid. Surely a cafe with so many branches must be an impressive establishment, right?

Firstly, Tatte is a chain cafe, which means you can count on consistent quality across all its locations. Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee or a bite to eat, knowing there’s a Tatte nearby means you can rely on a satisfactory eating experience. In other words, you’re guaranteed a meal that never disappoints. Further, the number of food options and quality are incomparable to those of other chain cafes. Whether you order a pastry from behind their display, or a meal from their full menu, the quality and variety of options are impeccable. My personal favorite is their avocado tartines, which are a must-try.

Secondly, Tatte offers a welcoming coworking space. Much like Starbucks, it's a place where you can settle in for hours, working away while refueling with delicious food and drinks. Each location's unique neighborhood adds to the experience, giving you the chance to people-watch or meet new faces when you need a break from work.  In my experience, I have done some of my best studying sitting in my local Tatte while indulging in my favorite drink and pastry.

However, despite Tatte’s wonderful traits, there are also some negatives. The main two are its authenticity and price point. Because Tatte is a chain cafe, it lacks the authenticity of other options that are small businesses in the city. While primarily only in Boston, it does not feel super special, especially considering every street has a Tatte. For me, this takes away the charm of the restaurant. Additionally, their pricing can be a make-or-break factor. Tatte’s menu, while delicious, is not the most budget-friendly for college students, especially when there are more affordable alternatives.

Despite its flaws, Tatte is anything but overrated, especially when it comes to food quality. Each visit consistently delivers the same great experience, making it a reliable choice. If you're living in Boston, Tatte is a must-try, though it's worth exploring the many other options the city has to offer as well.
