As my final year at Boston University draws to a close, I’m on a mission to experience the best of Boston. Next up on my list: attending a concert at the Boston Symphony Orchestra! My discovery of the BSO College Card turned this wish into reality with a mesmerizing performance of the “Turangalîla Symphony.”

Traditionally, students with a BSO College Card can attend as many concerts as they desire with a $30/year subscription. Luckily, BU Arts Initiative provides free BSO College Cards through a link on their website! My tickets were reserved in a matter of minutes as I anxiously awaited my first BSO experience.

Walking into Symphony Hall was like stepping back in time. The grandeur of the ornate ceiling, meticulously crafted with intricate gold leaf patterns, and the plush red velvet seats create the perfect scene for an unforgettable evening. The Hall also offers a range of concessions, including gourmet snacks and drinks, which enhance the luxurious atmosphere.

As the lights dimmed and the musicians tuned their instruments, the excitement in the air was unmistakable. Olivier Messiaen’s “Turangalîla Symphony” isn’t just music; it’s a grand adventure of sound. Guided by the conductor’s expert hand, the orchestra swept us away with powerful strings, surprising jazzy moments, and dramatic crescendos that brought Messiaen’s vibrant world to life.

As applause echoed through Symphony Hall, the symphony’s profound impact left me simultaneously awestruck and at peace. Experiencing such a masterpiece marked a highlight of my final year in Boston. I am grateful for opportunities like the BSO College Card, which allow students to create memories in our city’s rich cultural centers.
