BU Debates, Which Would You Choose?

As we enter the final stride of the fall semester, it's time for a friendly student competition. Let's put campus favorites, hot spots, and activities to the test. Whether you are a first-year or a fourth-year student, you probably have curated your list of BU favorites, from coffee shops to dining places. It's time to see if your top picks can pass their final exams.

The GSU is home to many different dining options and has a wide selection to choose from after a long day of classes. From diner-themed Rhett's to nutritious Urban Table, the GSU has options for all students who need a study snack or sweet treat to get through the long hours at the library. Our first BU Debate asks the question: Panda Express or Basho Sushi?

"Basho, but Panda Express is so much cheaper, so I prefer to save money," Chloe Lee (COM '28).

"Basho, I don't like Panda Express at all. I usually get a poke bowl, I'll add spicy tuna and sometimes I'll get the seaweed salad on top. It's so good," said Nina Stephans (CAS Pardee School of Global Studies '27)

Classic staples such as Starbucks and Dunkin are found on BU’s Campus. Still, many find themselves drawn to BU's other coffee shops while on the way to class or as a treat after a long lecture. Our next debate is about which place has the best mid-day coffee. We ask the question: Saxabys or Pavement?

"Saxbys 100 percent. I love Saxbys. They have such a good Matcha, and then the Dark peppermint mocha that they have right now is really good," said Stephens.

"I prefer Pavement for sure. I'm in love with Pavement. Their Matcha Latte is so good," said Lee.

"Pavement, but their coffee sucks. I only go for the bagels. But I have never been to Saxabys,"  said Violetta Mason (CAS' 26).

BU has more to offer than places to stop and get a sweet treat or a warm beverage. After the midterm season, most students have a good idea of where their favorite study spot is. Two places are always packed on weeknights, making it hard to find a spot. For our next round, we ask students to pick between studying at Mugar Library or the Center for Computing and Data Sciences.

"CDS is definitely better for the atmosphere, but I can only get work done in those cubicles at Mugar library, so I have to go there," Stephens said.

"Mugar Library, honestly, I have never gone to the CDS building. It kind of scares me. And I always like studying in libraries," said Mason.

To end this competition, we ask the very important but controversial question: Is East or West Campus best?

"West, but I live on South campus, so I am partial to South," Stephens said.

"East is better because, for me at least, it's closer to all my classes because I am in CAS. West is kind of removed from everything," said Mason.
