Biohacking 101
Tips to unlock your body’s full potential
by Chloe Saint Mard
What if I told you that you can perform, feel, and look your best every day by making a few easy changes to your routine? Earlier this year, I stumbled across a Forbes article and learned about biohacking, the ultimate wellness trend that uses science to help you reach peak performance. Ever since then, I have been obsessed with the concept! Here are some of my favorite tricks to help you get started.
Better rest:
Try dimming your lights in the evening to create a golden-hour vibe indoors. Himalayan salt lamps work wonders for this. It not only looks aesthetic but also signals your brain to switch off before bed. I’ve also invested in blue light glasses to reduce screen glare and support melatonin production for deeper sleep. Finally, to drift off smoothly, I enjoy listening to brainwave frequencies on YouTube and doing my pre-sleep visualization where I visualize my goals to ingrain them in my subconscious mind. This not only calms my mind but helps me attract what I desire in my life.
Better fitness:
I tailor my workouts based on my energy levels, which I can track with wearables like the WHOOP or Apple Watch. On days when I feel energized, I’ll push myself with high-intensity training or a pilates session. When my body needs more rest, I opt for lighter activities like stretching or a walk. Listening to your body and using data to guide your routine will help you stay consistent and support both your fitness goals and recovery.
Better nutrition:
Add superfoods like spirulina or acai to your meals for an extra nutritional kick. Trust me, green smoothies can be delicious once you learn the perfect kale-to-spinach ratio! I also focus on key minerals like magnesium for muscle relaxation and electrolytes for hydration. A pinch of Himalayan salt in your morning water helps balance electrolytes, while hot water with lemon and ginger supports digestion.
Better mental health:
I find Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques to be a game changer. According to Medical News Today, they can help shift negative thought patterns into positive ones, enhancing your mindset and overall mental health. Additionally, incorporating breathing techniques like the Wim Hof Method – a practice involving controlled breathing cycles followed by breath holds– can significantly reduce stress, increase focus, and improve oxygen efficiency.
Better skin
Gua sha and ice rolling aren’t just trendy—they’re genuinely effective. These tools help lift and tone your skin, perfect for achieving a snatched jawline. I also love to dry brush before my shower. It can feel odd at first but it exfoliates, stimulates your lymphatic system, and leaves your skin feeling baby-soft.
