5 Inexpensive Basics to Build a Capsule Wardrobe

As I’ve entered my 20’s, I’ve made it a goal to build my dream capsule wardrobe. Along the way my closet has become mostly black and white with hints of denim — but I love it. It makes getting dressed in the morning so effortless, while still achieving a chic and put together look. During the journey to achieving my capsule wardrobe, I’ve discovered some amazing basics that I wear pretty much every day. Here is a list of my favorite fashion basics - and the best part is, they are all under $15!

1. Target Wild Fable Cropped T-Shirt

I seriously have seven of these t-shirts and wear them constantly. I wear them under jackets, sweatshirts, or even alone to create a cropped look with high waisted jeans or a low waisted skirt. A well-fitting t-shirt is the foundation for a capsule wardrobe. They are only $5 and wash and dry amazingly!

2. Hanes Crew Socks

These socks don’t look like anything special off the bat, but they are my absolute favorite. The length of them is perfect to wear sticking out of a cute pair of sneakers. They also keep your ankles warm during cold temperatures, especially if you’re wearing loose pants. Not only are they stylish, but also super comfortable and great quality, especially for the price.

3. Amazon Gold Earring Set

This Amazon pack of earrings is hands down my best purchase of 2022. I wear these earrings every single day, especially the classic chunky hoop. They elevate any outfit, even a hoodie and sweats. They are surprisingly good quality and haven’t tarnished at all! A few pieces of simple jewelry are essential for accessorizing a capsule wardrobe.

4. Gildan Crewnecks

During Christmas break I ventured to a farming supply store in my hometown (Midwest girls know) and I bought a Gildan crewneck. They are so simple and go with absolutely everything. I love wearing them with cargo pants, matching sweatpants, or even tied around my chest in case of temperature changes. I swear they get softer with every wash, avoiding the hassle of hanging wet clothes.

5. Amazon Cat Eye Sunglasses

These $15 sunglasses are classic and timeless. They elevate any outfit, and also serve a functional purpose with UV protection. You can never go wrong with a pair of black cat eye sunglasses.

These are just a few items that prove you don’t need to spend a lot to have reliable pieces in your wardrobe. Having basics that you know work for you makes picking out outfits so much easier. It also allows you to experiment with new pieces, colors, and patterns to pair with your trusted basics or accessories.
