3 ways to enhance your space energetically and visually
by Richa Jindal
After living in Warren Towers for one year, I realized the value and importance of your physical surroundings. Making your space yours plays a big role in feeling happier and at peace. Your living space can improve your mood, decrease stress, and promote better sleep quality. A badly designed or cluttered living space can make you feel distressed, anxious, and disorganized (I know it made me feel that way). I’ve come to learn that regardless of whether you’re in a dorm or apartment, you can enhance your living space to make it feel like a home—you can recreate your environment.
Here are three simple ways to enhance your space energetically and visually with little money and effort:
Lighting
Of all the things that have made my room feel different, the lighting is the most impactful. While natural light is a big factor, when the sun starts setting at 4:15 pm, it starts to get depressing. What do you do then? Having constant, warm lighting through lamps or candles significantly enhances your space. It changes the way you feel and the way your room looks. If you’re in Warren or any space with white lights, invest in one or two lamps that radiate warm light. To add to this comforting feeling, lighting candles is a great way to light up your room and add depth and warmth. Fairy lights, sunset lamps, and other more fun lighting can create a different vibe too!
Art, Color, and Frames
Opt for lighter colors for your bedding or rugs as it opens up your space and balances better with natural light. Darker colors can feel heavier and should ideally be used in smaller amounts to balance out the lighter colors. Putting up art that you like (whether it’s posters or paintings) significantly enhances your space. It can be done cheaply by printing it and framing it too! The cliché of putting up personal pictures and memories has to be here too: sometimes waking up in a bad mood and looking at a happy memory can really make a difference.
Natural Elements
To enhance your space energetically, incorporating natural elements is a must. Sure, get the greens and faux plants, but sometimes do invest in real flowers. Caring for flowers and having them in your space really brightens it up and adds a touch of freshness. Further, regardless of whether you believe in it or not, I would recommend getting a salt lamp or rock salt to keep near your bed as it absorbs negative energy, and adds warmth to your space. The natural touch is a great plus too. I would also recommend saging your space once in a while to ensure good vibes and no evil eye!
Making a space yours is extremely important to maintain your mental sanity (especially in college). It really can be a reflection of your state of mind, so make sure it’s clean, neat, and has good vibes!
